LOCAL FLIGHTS  :

To reach Wamena, the home of the Dani Tribe, we need to fly by regular flight from Jayapuara to Wamena which is available daily.

 

To reach Yali tibe, we need to fly by chartered plane either from Wamena to Kosarek or to Angguruk. Both are the main villages in Yali territory.

 

To reach Koroway tribe, we need to fly by regular flight either from Jayapura or Wamena to Dekai. From Dekai, we need to drive by car to Lokbon harbor, then finally by long boat down to Koroway home

THE PROGRAM :

 

In some part of this tour where we need to sleep in a local village, you will be sleeping inside a tent that built inside a Honai/traditional hut, in which you will have a unique experience of living local daily life sleeping inside the hut. However the usage of tent is necessary to maintain your privacy and also protection from bugs

 

DAY 01 : ARRIVAL AT – JAYAPURA - WAMENA

Arrival at Jayapura by morning flight, then continue to Wamena town on the highland. Upon arrival at Wamena, then proceed to Sinakma village on the North West of Wamena. From here, we can enjoy the beautiful landscape view over the Wamena town. Then drive down to the end of the airport run way. Visit Wesaput hanging bridge. Then drive to hotel. Free program.

DAY 02 :  WAMENA - KOSAREK – SERKASI (B,L,D)

After breakfast ready to fly with missionary chartered plane to Kosarek, the home of the Yali Mek people in the southeast of Wamena. The flight  takes about 30 minutes and during to land you can see local people around the landing strip  with curious eyes. Kosarek area was opened by missionary in 70’s but the people still keep the tradition alive. They practice cannibalism all at once great farmers and live in the remote area which is difficult to get contact with other places. You have time to organize porters until get ready leaving for Serkasi, the village for staying overnight. On this entire trekking the terrain will be very hard, slippery, steep rocky hills, and rivers with no bridge to get across. Lunch served in lunch box. Dinner prepared by the cook. Overnight at tent or local hut in Serkasi. (Walk approx. 3,5 hours.

 

DAY 03 : SERKASI – PIMOHON (B,L,D)

Breakfast at Serkasi before continue the trekking day to Pimohon. There will be a rain forest mountain to hike. Lunch served in the forest by the stream. Another hill to climb before reaching the village. Overnight in tent or local hut in Pimohon. (Walk approx. 6 – 7 hours,

 

DAY 04 : PIMOHON – TELAMBELA (B,L,D)

Enjoy Yali performance after breakfast (the Pig Roast). Lunch at Pimohon and continue trekking down to Telambela Village. Dinner served by the cook. O/N in tent or local hut in Telambela. (Walk approx. 3 hours, B, L, D)

 

DAY 05 : PIMOHON - TELAMBELA – MEMBAHAM (B,L,D)

After breakfast, we trek down to Telambela Village. App 3 hr walk. From Telambela, we proceed to Membaham Village, located on the other side of the mountain. The scenery in the entire trekking is amzing. You can also can hear sometimes watch  Bird of Paradise or cockatoos on the way, refresh yourself in unpolluted rivers and have a great adventurous feeling. Lunch served en route. Dinner prepared by the cook. Overnight at tent or school at Membaham. (Walk from Telambela to Membaham is approx. 4 – 5 hour.

 

DAY 06 : MEMBAHAM – HELARIKI (B,L,D)

Leaving Membaham after early breakfast as this will be a long day. The next village to reach is Helariki, a border village between Angguruk and Kosarek. Today’s hike will be filled up with up and down hills but yet the panorama is very spectacular, with traditional villages and its people to meet. Lunch served by the cook near one of the rivers. Dinner served by the cook. Stay in tent or at school in Helariki. (Walk approx. 7 – 7,5 hours)

 

DAY 07 : HELARIKI – ANGGURUK (B,L,D)

After breakfast you are proceed to descend the steep river bank down to Yahuli River. A wooden bridge to across on the way to Angguruk, a home of Yali people. Lunch served en route. Dinner served by the cook. Stay overnight n Missionary guest house in Angguruk. (Walk approx. 6 hour)

 

DAY 08 : ANGGURUK - WAMENA (B)

Have breakfast in Angguruk while waiting for the chartered plane back to Wamena. The plane usually arrives in the morning to avoid the strong wind which blows strongly from other valley on the other side of the Elit Mountain. The wind usually occurs around 10.00 AM. Upon arrival in Wamena, transfer to hotel. rest time,.

DAY 09 : WAMENA - DEKAI (B)

By flight to Dekai, a small size town to the west of Wamena. It takes us about 30 minutes flight. Dekai is a new developed village to a small size town, after the recent self autonomy policy in Papua. Roads, government offices, etc are started to built. Arrival in Dekai, then check in to the small hotel in Dekai. This small town lies on the lower altitude than Wamena. Dekai is the home of the Manimo tribe, a tribe which is quite modern now. 

 

DAY 10 : DEKAI - LOKBON  - MABU (B,L,D)

Transfer by motorcycle to the small traditional harbor on Lopon village, about 1 hour of rough ride along the unpaved road. From Lopon, we will sail down to the south to Braza river, one of the largest river flowing to the south joining other river to Asmat area. All the way you will see the dense forest, peaceful surrounding, sometimes encounter the other passing by boats. On the way we may stop at the small villages which are belong to Citak Mitak tribe. This tribe built their houses on the riverside make of wood shape, with grass roof. In the past 1980's the tribe were still naked, however, the opening of the access to their village has changed their way of clothing. Now they wear short pants, but mostly wearing no shirt. There are 2 or 3 small villages. Most of them still work as food gather, such as fishing and hunting animals. We will sail down to the south to a mid size village called Mabu. 8 - 9 hours required from this boat ride.

 

DAY 11 : MABU – MARKUS VILLAGE  (B,L,D)

 After breakfast, together with local porters  we  prepare all our stuff then start  walk to  Markus village with the local porter team. Our walk will be passing through the swampy land, crossing river, some thick forest, as well as sago forest.. We spend about 3-4 hoours to  reach Markus Village  the 1st village of the Stone Koroway. There is single tree house with 2 families in this village. Lunch will served in the village. After lunch we will see how  Korowai tribe  Hunting with the dog, Hunting is one of the  way of life of Korowai tribe almost all the years they do Hunting in Daily activity, the hunting all kind of animals like wild pigs, big ground rat, Birds and atc. This ceremony has special interest because you may involve and contact directly to the local Koowai, lunch  and Dinner  will served in the village. Stay over night in Bevak with mosquito nret.

 

DAY 12,  : MARKUS  – HALIGATUN  (B,L,D)

After breakfast , We have another  2  hours walk this day, almost the same as the day before, we will be walking through the river bank, swamps, sago forest fro . There is a tree house, where 3 families living the moment. If we are lucky, we may meet the hunting Stone Koroway peoples on this trek. Beside as hunter and food gatherer, the local here also manage a small garden next to their house. They plant banana, bean, and sugar cane nearby. Arrive in Haligatun Village in midday time. Lunch will served in the village then after lunch you will see some attraction  like  Stair Tree House Mending  and Fish Basket called Kamboti. Dinner and stay over night on Bevak with mosquito Net.

  

DAY 013: STAY AT HALIGATUN    ( B,L,D )

To Day we have full day at Haligatun Village we will see how korwai tribe build and tie the  tree House stairs, tree house is a traditional house of korowai tribe according to korowai tradition and costume  all family has to have and build one of tree house  as  dwelling place to protect family from enemies as use to be korowai tribe they do fight between village and village, also form  animal attack like a snake because Korowai is a swampy area, also a good moment to comprehend daily activity of local tribe, lunch and dinner will be served in the village, stay overnight in the bivouac with mosquito net.

 

DAY 14: HALIGATUN – KALIANOF  – 4JM (B,L,D)  

Breakfast in the village at 07.00 Amto gether with team , to Day we will walk to Kalianov Village   with the local porter team. Our walk will be passing through the yellow swampy   land, crossing river, some thick forest, as well as sago forest.. We spend about 4-5 hoours to  reach Kalianof  village   . There is single tree house with 2 families in this village. Lunch will served in the village ,then in the afternoon  we will see sago processing attraction, stay over night at Bevak/ cottage  with mosquito net.

 

DAY 15, STAY AT KALIANOF VILLAGE ( B,LD )

We spend 1 day with the Koroway at KIalianof Village, To Day we will see sago ceremony processing of korowai , as a main food of local tribe , after lunch  a good moment to comprehend the locals daily habits. We may see how they work in their garden, how they cook their food, take care of their children, etc. they are still semi nomadic, sometimes they go deep into the jungle to search for food. They collect young sprout, fruits from the jungle, and hunting animals too. When they go for hunting, they will take their family along. Lunch and dinner will served in the village, stay at Bevak / cottage with mosquito net.

 

DAY 16  : KALIANOF – MABUL  ( B,L,D)

After breakfast  at 07.00 Am Together with team start walk to Mabul village about 4-5 hours arrive in Mabul sty over night at local House.

 

DAY 16 : MABU - SUATOR (B,L,D)

Today we ride the boat again from Mabu down to Suator Area, Asmat territory. We will spend about 9 hours on the wooden boat passing the great Braza river with it's nice landscape view, meet the locals on the way from Asmat up to Mabu or Lokbon, meet the locals fishing on the riverside, etc.  Arrival late in the afternoon in Suator, then stay overnight at local house.

 

DAY 17 : SUATOR - ASMAT VILLAGE / JINAK (B,L,D)

After breakfast at the local stilt house, then other oat from Asmat village will pick us up from this village. We may spend about 8 or 9 hours on the motorized canoe. Sail downriver under the shade of the tree. Great experience to comprehend the floral life along the river bank. Mangroves, sago tree, and other swamp plant type are thrive well all the way. We may also meet the locals paddling their boat down or up river, fishing or move from one village to the other. The river we are sailing through is the main "highway" in the hinterland. Arrival in the afternoon at Asmat village, and stay at their long house.

 

DAY 18 : JINAK / ASMAT CEREMONIES  (B,L,D)

To accomplish your adventure to Asmat, the Ceremony demonstration will be held at the village to make more enjoyable trip, such as ritual songs with drumming and canoe racing.

 

DAY 19 : JINAK - AGATS (B, L, D)

Before living the village there is several art collections for your home souvenir. Walk to motorized canoe a sail to Agats. Lunch served enroute. In the afternoon you may walk around of Agats, the sub District of the Asmat region & also visit museum in Agats which is worth to do. Stay & dinner at Asmat Inn of Agats.

 

DAY 20 : AGATS - EWER -  TIMIKA (B)

Sail back to Ewer airstrip, then fly to Timika by chartered plane, stay overnight at hotel Komorotame Resort in Timika. Stay at Deluxe room

 

DAY 21 : TIMIKA - JAKARTA (B)

Transfer to the airport, then fly to Jakarta at 11.30 hrs. arrival at Jakarta at 15.00 hrs. Then fly back home
